How does the BrillianceScope help me? |

What does the BrillianceScope do and what inspired its creation?
GemEx CEO Randy Wagner described the idea behind the instrument, "As a consumer myself, I didn't care what the industry told me in terms of the 4C's. All I cared about at the end of the day was how the diamond sparkled on my wife's finger, if people noticed it and commented on it at cocktail parties….essentially the wow effect we're all looking for in the diamonds we buy. The 4C's alone just did not provide me enough information to feel certain I was buying a diamond that would get wows. So, I wanted to develop a way of measuring that effect." Wagner's idea is simple. Instead of arguing over and trying to interpret the multiple levels of variables related to the 4C's, the BrillianceScope allows one to measures the result of all these variables --- which is the amount and type of light that is reflected and refracted from the diamond that effectively creates the "sparkle" in the stone.
Why do I need a machine to see if the diamond sparkles?
Wagner gave this illustration, "Diamond retailers will often use special lighting and other techniques to amplify the sparkle of a diamond that they are trying to sell. Eventually, all the diamonds start to look the same, it's like shining 2 spotlights in your eyes, and asking which one is brighter." Wagner is correct in observing that lighting is critical in observing the sparkle of a diamond. Ideally, the best place to view a diamond would be under candlelight in a darkened room. However, at several retailers, the best consumers will get is a view through a 10x loupe under bright store lights. The BrillianceScope bypasses the subjectivity of the conditions in a retailer's store, and gives objective measurements of the diamond's sparkle.
Besides helping me pick the most sparkling/ beautiful diamond, how else do these measurements make my life easier?
Wagner answered, "The BrillianceScope's measurements streamline the experience of the diamond consumer. Being able to maximize on beauty, you have more choice and you can potentially save money." With the BrillianceScope you may be able to buy a diamond that not only looks great, but costs less as well because you may now be maximizing on beauty (as measured by the BrillianceScope) vs. rarity (as measured by the basic 4C's). The BrillianceScope empowers consumers with the information and freedom to buy less expensive (because they rate lower on the 4C metrics), but more beautiful (because they rate higher for Light Performance) diamonds if they so wish.
Additionally, for those consumers who wish to browse or shop online for their diamonds, now they can even search for their own preferences on how the diamond will look (based on the Light Performance Analysis results of the Brilliance Scope), rather than guessing at poor 2D photo images. Do you want a diamond that produces a rainbow-effect of colors? You can focus your search on a diamond that has a "very high" fire (colored light) rating. Or would you rather focus your search on a diamond with a lot of brilliance (white light)? This type of search is possible with the availability of the Light Performance Analysis (LPA) reports from the BrillianceScope. DavidSDiamonds.com provides LPA's online on our website for your searching convenience.
